Normally speaking, if you wanna teach English at schools in China, you are required to have a bachelor degree and 2 years experience, or have a TEFL Certificate along with your degree, both can give you a working visa. |

Can I apply a working visa in HongKong? I signed a contract with a school here in Beijing, but I hold a tourism visa, the school told me I have to go back to my country to change my visa, do you know if I can do it in HongKong? Thanks. |

Since the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, all of the foreigners who need to change visa from L/F/X to working visa, ie Z visa, they have to go back to their home countries, they cannot do it in HongKong anymore. Usually they need work permit and visa invitation letter, to show these two documents to the embassy for a Z visa application. However, we do have some exceptions. We helped several foreigners with a Z visa change in Hong Kong recently, however, the applicants must have work permit already, then we help them with a visa invitation letter which writes HongKong Visa Office, thus you can apply a Z visa in HongKong. |

Am I crazy to look for a new job in this economy? I have a nice job, it's just not a perfect fit, and I think I could be making more. |

I say you should always keep your eyes open, no matter what the economy. I would just watch the industry you are interested for lay-off's, etc. But, yea, definitely be grateful for a good job right now. |

Hi, Sam, you know, it is a time of economic recession, there is a negative effect on the world job market, including China. For some industries, the jobs are increasing, however, most companies have stopped recruiting, except educational organizations, esp. Chinese public schools. They usually do foreign teacher recruitment like usual, so you can get a job as a language teacher. We now have some jobs from schools for the coming Feb. 2009, if you are itnerested, you can contact us via resume@foreignhr.com. thanks. |

Hi, Tim, thanks for your enquiry. Usually we post a number of jobs from our previous clients or present clients every two or three days. We are authorized to recruit people for their vacancies. If you are interested in any of the jobs from the homepage list, please provide us the following documents as a beginning:
1) Updated CV, the updated information about the work you have been doing esp. in recent one or two years and your current professional or the experience you had before which helps your application for this job is very important.
2) Passport fisrt page, there is the very information about your bio, which your potential employers are most interested in. For some jobs, there is an age explanation, which is or is not a discrimination but the government regulation or occupation restriction.
3) Degree or certificate copies. These stuff are the most obvious criterion for selecting the most qualified candidates for their vacancies, though the papers and documents are not throughly saying you are what the documents represent.
4) Recommendation letter or referees. Not only the documents the HR managers need to see, but also the referees with their recommendation letters to be requested. Generally speaking these referees are more practical and genuine than paper documents, although it is still possible to make a fake recommendation.
5) Physical exam. Easy to understand that all employers want their employees with a physical as well as mental health. This paper is asked especially for your application of a full time job.
ForeignHR's steps for your job help usually goes like:
1) Request the above documents
(our posts mostly cannot meet jobseekers' need for more detailed information, however, we can hardly send you more with more details about your experience and qualification. Usually we respond more to the qualified applicants with a comprehensive documents.)
2) ForeignHR arranges an interview with the qualified candidates for clients
3) Recommend you as a candidate to our clients after our first interview
4) Arrange an interview between you and our clients
5) Assist with the follow up and also the explanation of job respsonsibilies and the negotiation of offer package
6) Assist with contract sign and relocation if needed.
More enquiries, please write to service@foreignhr.com. |

I am going to do a demo class for a kindergarten job in Beijing, any suggestion for my preparation? Thanks. |

Since it is a kindergarten job you are going to give a demo, your students are kids, you are supposed to teach some simple English, also sing some English songs or do some easy games. The purpose of this vacancy for a foreign teacher is to creat an English environment for the kids, and let them have some sense of English language. For your dress and make up, you are wearing some normal dress but not sexy, light make up but not strong, also no high-heel shoes. When giving demo, try to make your speaking slowly and clearly, but not fast. Be sure most of the kids can follow you, and put their concentration on you. Wish you good luck. |

For your first job interview, nerves are good, it will show them that you want the job, write down a list of reasons why you do want to work for Dorothy Perkins, eg you like to shop thier, you find the staff very helpful and approachable, it is a well established company. It may be wise to read though the job criteria and read between the lines as to what type of person they are looking for, eg hard working, reliable, honest. Check out their website online and see if they have an employment section, read though this to gleam some more informatio. Also write down any information about the company, eg what year it was established, how many stores they have around the country, you may be able to slip this in at the interview and it will show that you know something about the company. After they ask each question take a deep breath as this will relax you and give you a second to compose your answer, try to be as honest as you can. If you have not got a answer don't be afraid to ask them to repeat the question and if you go totally blank, be honest and just admit you are really nervous as you really want the job and ask them to go the next question. Remember that the people asking the questions are not looking to employ the most confident interviewees but the best people for the job and that will porbably be you. Wear something smart and and try to give good eye contact, if they ask you if you want a drink of tea or coffee, decline and ask for a glass of water if you are thirsty as it is easyer to leave if you have not finished it at the end of the interview. When I am asked at the end if I have any questions I normally just reply that they have seemed to have covered everthing that I was going to ask and I prefare to find out things once I've started the job, a little cheekey but it shows that you are still serious about starting. Most inmportantly remember to smile as much as you can. Enjoy your interview you'll do great. ) |

I have been turned down for a promotion because I was a disabled vet. I have been called a slave and made to "jump through hoops". I watch as a total idiot gets raises and praises for decorating as I have to maintain what makes the place work. Some people say I am lucky to have a job; but I say I need to find another job. I need a better job right? |

They can't turn you down for a promotion because of your disability, unless that disability would prevent you from doing the job. If you were truly qualified, and were passed over solely because of your disability, you might have a legal case against your employer. But you'll have to be able to prove that was the reason. Other than that, start looking around. If you're a good worker, there are people out there looking for you right now. |

What are some of the most common questions an interviewer will ask a candidate for a position? Any personal experiences or stories? Please share!! |

Depending on the type of business and if you are in contact with others outside of the company or dealing with money. It really depends on the type of job you are interviewing for. Asking about trust and dependance as well as past employers and jobs, references, education level, the way you present yourself plays the largest role of an interview. Your speech also plays a major role. Many of the questions will be trick questions checking for honesty and such. Things like if you were to find an X amount of money, what would you do with it. When you will be able to start work. Your capabilities for the job. Your experience with actions you will be performing for the job. Your people skills. Why did you leave your previous job. Why do you feel we should hire you instead of someone else. What sets you aside from other applicants. A series of scenarios that you could be faced with and the answers you give them will tell them if you are sincere about the job. How much you want or need the job. There are so very many things and ways to go about an interview. One of my biggest things is how they represent themselves and how they answer my questions....not what they say for their answer, but the way in which they answer and if they seem sincere and dependable. |
